> 'The Portland Race is the most dangerous extended area of broken water in the English Channel. Quite substantial vessels drawn into it have been known to disappear without trace.' That is what my pilot book says about rounding Portland Bill. With some trepidation we set off East at 5am leaving Dartmouth just as the dawn was breaking. Once again we safely rounded a notorious point uneventfully. As we came towards Weymouth we had to negotiate fleets of dinghies racing in a pre-Olympic regatta. Once in the harbour we passed through the lifting bridge into the Marina. We had a nap, showered and then ate in town.
